iD DISC, Wonder Woman, and Why Personality Is a Playground
Why my name is Lynda...
When I was three, I spent endless therapy sessions glued to the television series, the 80’s Wonder Woman, with Lynda Carter. Those early years planted the seeds of my love for boldness, movement, truth-telling, and freedom — long before I’d ever heard of DISC, long before I knew I’d spend my life helping people show up fully. And yes, at age three, I officially named myself Lynda, after Lynda Carter, right there in front of my preschool… but that’s a story for another day.
Fast forward: I’m watching Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, thinking about the origins of DISC. William Marston, the genius behind Wonder Woman, developed it in the 1920s to map how human behavior expresses itself in different situations — not to box anyone in. And yes, he also invented the lie detector, which somehow feels fitting for someone obsessed with how we show up and speak our truths. It’s no coincidence he gave Wonder Woman the Lasso of Truth — a tool to reveal what’s real, freely and without shame — something I’ve spent my life helping people do in their own way.
I see it through my work: helping people move with freedom, speak with clarity, and show up fully without self-censorship — the same principles that, consciously or unconsciously, shaped my own fascination with boldness and honesty from a very young age.
I recently took my DISC assessment (I’m an iD). High “i” (Influence) with “D” (Dominance), plus nuances in “S” (Steadiness) and “C” (Conscientiousness). Here’s what it all means — and how it plays out in my life:
i — Influence: Thrives on connection, curiosity, and energy. I love coaching, workshops, improv, and adventure. Social, persuasive, first-to-try-new-things energy — sometimes brilliantly, sometimes chaotically.
D — Dominance: My drive and decisiveness. It’s why I step into leadership, challenge systems, and ask the bold questions that spark transformation.
S — Steadiness: Though lower on paper, it’s how I show up at home and with loved ones — patient, tender, fully present. This is my “mush” side.
C — Conscientiousness: Reflection, planning, and care. Balances the high-energy iD traits. Helps me capture fleeting ideas in my note app and voice notes and bring clarity to messy, human experiences.
Personality is a construct — fluid, context-dependent, and shaped by relationships and environment. DISC doesn’t define me; it reflects how I engage with the world and how others experience me.
Research backs this up: high “i” profiles correlate with social energy and engagement, high “d” with assertive decision-making, high “s” with relationship stability, and high “c” with accuracy and analytical thinking. Personality interacts with context — the boardroom is different from a living room, a coaching session different from a road trip.
I’ve lived this: at work, I’m bold, persuasive, and energetic — facilitating transformation, aligning teams, and holding space for growth. At home? I’m soft, tender, and messy with the people I love. I flex, adapt, evolve, and show up authentically. I’m truth-telling and freedom-seeking, living in the tension between energy and stillness, action and reflection.
As a licensed DISC (workplace) assessment facilitator, I help people uncover their strengths, understand their interactions, and build awareness that translates into real-world impact. DISC isn’t a cage.
It’s a playground for curiosity, self-awareness, and authentic connection — and it’s just one of the tools I use to help people, teams, and leaders show up fully.
